Cepea, 30/07/2025 – Brazil's 2024/25 cotton crop is wrapping up with record exports. Secex data analyzed by Cepea show that, from August/24 through the fourth week of July/25, Brazil has already shipped 2,82 million tonnes, a volume 5% larger than what was shipped in the entire previous season (2,68 million tonnes, until now the record in the Secex series). In the domestic market, Cepea surveys show cotton lint prices continue to oscillate, reflecting the “tug of war” between agents. Some sellers are showing greater flexibility on prices; however, industry buyers are offering even lower prices. In addition, difficulty in approving the lots on offer is also limiting liquidity. Due to the delay in harvesting and ginning for the 2024/25 season, researchers explain that many players are prioritizing the fulfillment of forward contracts, especially since a good share were arranged at prices more attractive than those currently practiced in the domestic spot market. Source: Cepea (www.cepea.esalq.usp.br)
